Anyone can fill a venue on a Friday night. Every weekend, no matter what time of the year it is, people are actively looking for an excuse to go out, spend money, and hang out with their friends. So, if you are a bar, nightclub, or restaurant owner, you’ve got guaranteed sales every single weekend. The problem arises when it’s a Tuesday night and your venue is empty. Now you’re operating at a loss because you are not making any money while paying for electricity, water, insurance, staff wages, and other operating costs. You may have a handful of regulars who show up on those slow days, but the amount they spend does not cover the costs you incur.

You need to find a way to fill your venue on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays when no one is actively looking to go out and spend money. You are not trying to fill the room on a Tuesday with the same crowd that fills it on a Saturday night.

Shift the mindset

Weekend buyers plan days or weeks in advance, buy higher priced tickets, and travel across the city or even the country to make it to an event. Weekday buyers are the complete opposite.

On a Tuesday, people are not looking to spend a lot of money or time out in the middle of the work or school week. They want something low commitment, just an excuse to get out of the house for a couple of hours to catch up with friends or have a few after work drinks. Your events need to be affordable, an easy “yes”, and targeted to the neighborhood around your venue.

4 Themes to turn weekdays into cash flow

Create themed nights for different days of the week. Design recurring, low cost events that rely on local communities.

  • Tuesday Trivia Nights: Weekly trivia leagues bring recurring groups who return every single week, buy food and drinks, and care about their scores. Team up with a local trivia host company to set up a deal where they get a commission from ticket sales, so they’ll promote it for you, too. Check out Dublin Calling, they host trivia nights every Tuesday and have a guaranteed crowd every week.
  • Monday Industry Nights: Offer special discounts for people who work in the hospitality, bar, and retail industries. They are often off on Mondays as opposed to the weekends. By offering some sort of discounts to them, your venue could become their official end of week hangout spot.
  • Live music Wednesdays: Book local musicians and artists to fill the room with their friends, family, bandmates, and neighbors. You’ll bring together a community of people who want to support local artists and show up every week. Gibbons Irish Pub hosts weekly Live Music Wednesdays and brings in a crowd to support whatever artist is playing.
  • Wine Wednesdays: Feature a special offer on wine every Wednesday. It could be a 2 for 1 special or a dollar an ounce. Whatever the deal is, people love an alliteration, whether it is Wine Wednesday, Taco Tuesday, or Big Mug Monday.
